Antibiotics are medications prescribed by a veterinarian to cure bacterial infections in felines.

But, did you know that some natural home remedies can serve as antibiotics for your cat?

Of course, you should only go with this kind of home remedy after consulting your veterinarian, because he’s the person who knows your cat and her health status to the core.

I bring you the list of 6 safe remedies that will make your cat feel better and will not cause any harm to her health.

Let’s take a look at them.

1. Bee Propolis

Cats might benefit from using bee propolis as a home remedy antibiotic.

Bee propolis presents a promising alternative to the prevention and possible treatment of certain viral diseases in several animal species, according to María de Jesús González Búrquez and her associates [1].

This natural remedy can be beneficial for cat skin burns, wounds, dermatitis, upper respiratory infections, and parasitic infections.

You can give your cat bee propolis in the form of powder, capsules or as water based tincture.

2. Calendula

If your cat is struggling with a certain skin condition, such as a rash, a burn, or a wound, you might try using calendula as a natural remedy.

Calendula is a flowering plant that has been used as a natural remedy for many years. This plant has an anti-inflammatory and soothing effect on a cat’s skin.

You can use calendula as a skin cream to treat your cat’s infected skin.

Any side effects of this plant for felines are not likely, but you still need to be careful. If you notice an irritation on your cat’s skin after applying calendula on it, you should remove it and consult your veterinarian.

3. Chamomile

Cup of chamomile tea

Chamomile is a herbal supplement best known for its calming effects.

This home remedy antibiotic can be used to treat inflamed skin in felines, but also to relieve their gastrointestinal inflammations. Furthermore, chamomile is also effective in treating a cat’s stress and anxiety, and as a home remedy for worms.

You can give chamomile to your cat in the form of a capsule, powder, or tea, or use it topically.

Here it’s necessary to be especially careful, since larger amounts of chamomile can be toxic for cats.

Of course, your cat would need to ingest a larger amount of this herbal supplement for it to cause severe symptoms in her, such as skin irritations, vomiting and diarrhea.

Before giving this home remedy antibiotic to your kitten, consult your veterinarian on the permitted dose.

4. Echinacea

Echinacea is a flowering plant that can also be used as a home remedy antibiotic for felines.

This plant is very beneficial for the cat’s immune system, and can be used for curing the cat’s skin issues and for respiratory conditions as well. So, if you notice symptoms such as sneezing and watering eyes in your cat, you can try to give echinacea to her.

Echinacea has wound healing, anti-allergenic, and anti-inflammatory properties.

This plant’s leaves, flowers and roots are considered to be safe for felines. You should give it to your cat with food, in the form of liquid extract, a capsule or powder.

5. Manuka Honey

Honey is a wonderful liquid food known for its antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. Not only is this sweet fluid good for humans – it can also be used as a home remedy antibiotic for kittens!

According to Amanda Curtis [2], manuka honey can serve as an aid in the initial inflammatory phase, because of its superior antimicrobial activity. This is especially important today since manuka honey gives us a way to reduce frequent antibiotic use in felines.

You can apply manuka honey to treat wounds on your cat’s skin. This way, you will speed up the skin’s healing process, and you will also prevent bacteria growth.

You should apply honey on the affected area and protect it with a bandage or gauze to prevent cats from licking it.

You see, honey is super healthy and helpful for your cat’s skin issues, but I don’t recommend your cat to eat it, since it can cause an upset stomach in her; just like jello or cheesecake – we enjoy these tasty treats, but we shouldn’t share them with our kittens.

6. Vinegar

Every household has a bottle of apple cider vinegar for cooking, right? Well, this is a product you might not only use in your kitchen, but also as a natural home remedy antibiotic for your kitten.

Judy Morgan, a holistic veterinarian, suggests how vinegar can be used for treating several health issues in cats, such as:

• As a flea and tick treatment

• For urinary tract infections

• For treating hot spots

When it comes to the dosage, the best would be to give one teaspoon of vinegar per quart of water to your cat.

Of course, I recommend first checking with the vet, depending on the type of health issue your cat is dealing with.

In The End

So, there are various natural home remedy antibiotics for cats, if you’re worrying about your cat having classic antibiotic treatment too frequently.

These home remedies are safe for felines, but, I strongly advise you to use them only after consulting your veterinarian.

He’s the one that will give you the green light on this and will direct you on the ideal dose following your cat’s age, breed, and general health status.
