Netgear Nighthawk RAX70 is a high-end Tri-Band Wi-Fi 6 router that sports a powerful Quad-Core processor for high performance. It’s safe to say that Netgear has brought many upgrades to this over its last intimation, Nighthawk RAX50. And for most homes, the AX6600 should be more than enough, even for large families.

Why is it suited for Sparklight?

With a Gigabit connection, it can keep up much easier, and pairing with the same, download speeds on the 5GHz band clocked at 978 Mbps, while 526 Mbps for the 2.4GHz band. Similarly, the upload speed breakdown on respective bands was 34 Mbps and 27 Mbps.

With such a fast 5GHz connection, it’s possible to undertake most tasks without breaking a sweat. I played games like Destiny 2, Red dead redemption 2, and a few others on 110 FPS, with almost zero lags and latencies. Alongside, 4K content on Netflix without any buffering, indicating the overall router capability.

Wired Speed

Netgear sticks to 5 GigE ports with multi-gig speeds available through Link Aggregation. But I couldn’t run the tests due to the unavailability of two separate IPs. Although on a single port, the speeds panned out to be 998 Mbps for downloads and 39 Mbps for uploads, which means a few extra Mbps at your disposal.

So, connect your bandwidth-hungry devices to the device and get your tasks done a few seconds faster.

WiFi Coverage & Connections Capacity

This mothership-inspired design with 6 powerful internal antennas concealed in the wings performed well in my coverage tests. RAX70 could easily sheath a 2,000 Sq Ft house with strong WiFi signals. Why is it suited for Sparklight?

I paired this router with the Sparklight Gig Internet plan, and it performed exceptionally well on the 5GHz band. Both short-range and long-range tests were conducted, which confirms that the router can deliver 947 Mbps of download speeds over a 9-foot distance, whether obstructed or not.

In a more typical 35-foot scenario, normal for most devices like gaming consoles, smart TVs, and others transferred data at the rate of 714 Mbps. Similarly, speeds for uploads clocked at 33 Mbps and 29 Mbps.

On the other hand, the 2.4GHz performance was pretty average, with the device attaining download and upload scores of 766 Mbps and 25 Mbps, respectively. So, by connecting with the 5GHz band, you can host a local gaming tournament or stream back-to-back movies on Netflix in a great resolution and practically zero lags.

Wired Speeds

Asus RT-AX86S has a standard port layout with 4 GigE LAN and 1 GigE WAN port, which, while not supporting link aggregation, can deliver Gigabit speeds when connected separately.

The average download and upload speeds through direct connection clocked at 991 Mbps and 36 Mbps. So you can connect your big guns directly and free up the wireless channels for completing other internet-bound tasks.

Coverage isn’t the strong suit of this Sparklight router, but I wasn’t much disappointed with the results. With 3 external antennas and beamforming technology, it’s a decent wireless router to use in a 2,000 Sq Ft house. Even in far corners, the device could stream a UHD video on the 5GHz channel without any buffering.

Other than that, RT-AX86S integrates QoS and MU-MIMO that work harmoniously with the antennas to send signals of equal bandwidth to multiple connected devices. The connection capacity can be extended up to 45 devices, a figure much higher than my previous recommendation.

Security Features

Security on RT-AX86S is the best among other routers compatible with Sparklight. You get a lifetime subscription to AiProtection with advanced security features like malware blocking, content filtering, denying access to foreign devices, and more. Besides, there’s a WPA3 protocol that encrypts your sensitive data and information.

Conclusion

Asus RT-AX86S, priced under $250, is a great gaming router that delivers a powerful performance to satisfy most bandwidth-hogging devices. The coverage is decent, and its lifetime-free security adds a cherry on top.

Now you can experience a Gigabit internet without fearing compromising your data. But the lack of an additional band and a link aggregation pushed it to the second position.

Courtesy of the new 6GHz band, much clear signals are thrown into your home or office setup, and you get uninterrupted internet throughout the day. TP-Link AXE75, with these, brings a lot of upgrades to the table over its older model.

Why is it suited for Sparklight?

Reflective of its affordable price, Archer AXE75 delivered a decent performance in testing. Its score of 925 Mbps for downloads on the 5GHz proximity tests is better than many of my tested models. Similarly, at 30 feet, the router attained a score of 545 Mbps. The inclusion of an additional 6GHz band results in clearer signals in whatever number of devices you connect.

It took around 10-12 seconds to upload a 2GB file containing images, videos, and music files, taking the average speed to 200-210 Mbps on the 5GHz band. On the other hand, the low-frequency band raked out download and upload speeds at 455 Mbps and 84 Mbps, respectively.

So, the devices connected over the 5GHz band with almost Gigabit speed output allow you to undertake any internet-bound tasks easily, whether HD gaming, 4K streaming or attending zoom calls.

Wired Speeds

With a traditional arrangement of 4 Gigabit LAN ports and 1 Gig WAN port on the rear panel, you can connect any of your devices using the Ethernet cable and get near-Gigabit download speeds while getting super-fast uploads. That’s helpful when you have multiple bandwidth-intensive devices to work on.

WiFi Coverage & Connections Capacity

Compared to my previous recommendation, I got much better results with Archer AXE75. It integrates 6 powerful antennas that can transmit better and stronger signals at a distance as far away as 2,500 Sq Ft.

It’s always favourable to procure a powerful and dependable device as a modem-router combo that works well with Sparklight 1 Gig internet while taking up little table space and budget. While many options are available, I vote for ARRIS Surfboard G34 for its multi-faceted abilities and impactful processing setup.

Now, compared to other routers good for Sparklight, you get a 2-in-1 versatile device that integrates both functions, i.e., modem and router.

Why is it suited for Sparklight?

A dual-band Wi-Fi 6 support and a maximum throughput capacity of AX3000 make ARRIS G34 a perfect fit for any mid-tier or even Gigabit plan of Cable One. And pairing with the same, the speeds over the 5GHz band were pretty impressive.

The download speed score over the band was around 896 Mbps, while 32 Mbps was the upload speed. The far band speeds clocked 521 Mbps, despite its throughput capacity capped at 574 Mbps. So, with such speeds, use cases are many, be it playing games like Destiny 2, Excalibur, and RDR2 at 75fps or streaming 4K movies on Netflix.

Wired Speeds

Surfboard G34, with 4 GigE ports, is one of the top modem router combos supporting Gigabit internet. So, pairing the respective Sparklight plans could let you download at 978 Mbps and 215 Mbps. There was a major dip in latency, and now games played at 90fps, delivering a much faster and clearer gaming experience.

WiFi Coverage & Connections Capacity

Regarding coverage, modem-router combos aren’t the ones to trust. But here, G34 makes an exception. Despite lacking external antennas, this device’s signal range can go as far as 2,000 Sq Ft. So, any small to mid-sized house should make for an ideal set-up of this modem-router combo.

But the device lacks features like OFDMA and QoS, which makes for the transfer of stable signals over multiple devices. Despite that, you can connect up to 25 devices without experiencing many inconsistencies.

Security Features

Being a modem-router combo, you can’t expect many security features. Features like WPA3 protocol and a VPN server should be enough to keep your home network and devices safe and secure. But it can’t provide enough protection for your workplace devices and their data, as no premium upgrades are available.

Conclusion

ARRIS G34 is a versatile device that packs a DOCSIS 3.1 modem and a Wi-Fi 6 router without compromising performance. It performs well with Gig internet plans and works with ISPs other than Sparklight (formerly Cable One). But the lack of adequate security features and lesser speeds take it to the following position.

If you need a value-for-money mesh router to use in a large house, then Google Nest WiFi is a reliable option. It was launched by Google as the first model under the Nest series with numerous improvements over Google WiFi AC1200, as it received a massive backlash from its customers.

Why is it suited for Sparklight?

Mesh WiFi routers are always known for their coverage, but does it get you the required speeds? From my tests across two bands, I can confirm that it delivers enough to get most of your tasks done.

On the 5GHz band, the average download speeds with a 500 Mbps plan clocked at 427 Mbps, while upload speeds were placed at 24 Mbps. At the same time, respective speeds with the 2.4GHz band were 356 Mbps and 18 Mbps. It might not be the fastest device, but its speed and stability make it a good wireless router for Sparklight.

Now coming to the use case, a nearly 500 Mbps speed lets you easily undertake any internet-bound tasks. Nothing should obstruct your way, be it playing games, watching your favorite cooking shows, or attending client calls over Zoom.

Wired Speeds

Google WiFi doesn’t have many ports, with only one amongst three to get a wired connection for a smart TV or gaming console. But that doesn’t mean you cannot run a cable to create a wired connection for faster performance.

The speed test results for downloads and uploads were 467 Mbps and 27 Mbps with the 500 Mbps connection, much higher than wireless speeds.

WiFi Coverage & Connections Capacity

As mentioned, coverage is a strong suit of mesh routers, and its powerful antennas on both units can cover a large area of 3,700 Sq Ft. It is a major upgrade over Google WiFi which hardly could cover half the space. All my existing dead spots and network weak zones were gone, and I could work in room 4-walled away from the router, with peace of mind.

Google Nest WiFi further ingrains technologies like MU-MIMO and beamforming to dissipate strong and stable connections to client devices. Despite connecting 50 devices, there weren’t many inconsistencies, which is a major plus point.

Security Features

As a networking company, Google prioritizes its customers’ security with features like the Safe Search system, automatic updates, WPA 3 encryption, and more. And concerning parental controls, there are features like monitoring online time and regulating it by pausing your network anytime.

Conclusion

With Wi-Fi 5, Google Nest WiFi might not be the fastest device, but its stability and coverage make it one of the most reliable mesh routers to use with Sparklight. But due to a lack of advanced features and compatibility, it is ranked fifth on the list.

A decent array of features and above-average hardware work harmoniously to give out a performance much better than its previous model.

Why is it suited for Sparklight?

It’s not easy to beat the performance vs value proposition as my previous recommendation delivers. But if you’re subscribed to any Sparklight plans with 300 Mbps or less throughput capacity, you can get away with paying less for Linksys EA8100 without compromising its performance.

Measuring on the 5GHz band, the router delivers a maximum download throughput of 277 Mbps while uploads take place at 15 Mbps. It means you have ample bandwidth for gaming, streaming movies, heavy browsing or video calls without skipping a beat.

The speeds on the 2.4GHz band weren’t great, but it still managed a throughput of 263 Mbps and 17 Mbps for downloads and uploads.

Wired Speeds

Like most routers on my list, EA8100 boasts 5 GigE (1 WAN and 4 LAN) ports, so your devices can exploit a maximum of Gigabit speeds. If wired connectivity is your priority, I’d recommend upgrading your plan to 500 Mbps or even 1 Gbps.

I did connect the 500 Mbps plan to get speed outputs of 509 Mbps and 76 Mbps for downloads and uploads, respectively. So, the gaming performance should be excellent with wired connectivity.

WiFi Coverage & Connections Capacity

Coverage isn’t where this router shines, but I can bet on consistency whenever you connect. Although its three antenna setup can send strong signals across a 1,200 Sq Ft. You don’t have to worry about connectivity or weak spots in your one-bed apartment and enjoy decent speeds sitting comfortably on your lazy chair.

Now rest remains connections capacity, and the beamforming technology and MU-MIMO work harmoniously to dissipate stable signals to at least 20 devices engaged in bandwidth-intensive activities. While the number of devices can increase to 25 if you are using them to send emails, browse social media, and stream music online.

Security Features

Similar to coverage, security doesn’t catch your eye. EA8100 includes features like WPA2 to encrypt the datasets and a VPN server to browse any website anonymously. I reckon a one-bedroom setting with a maximum of 8-10 devices is safe with such features, but if you deal with sensitive datasets, I’d ask you to subscribe to a third-party antivirus.

Conclusion

Linksys EA8100 might fall behind in comparison to those high-end routers suitable for Sparklight, but the set of features it presents should satisfy the internet needs of most of your household devices. It might not have great coverage, but technologies like MU-MIMO and others ensure you are always connected to a stable connection.

The D-Link DIR-1950-US is a smart router that delivers ample bandwidth to let you stream your favorite movies or play games without worry. Besides, its antennas are strong enough to sheath your decent-sized home with strong signals, and the router is easily operable with the D-Link app.

In short, it might not be on par with one of those high-end routers on my list, but it sure gets your job done.

Why is it suited for Sparklight?

I have been using this router for over two weeks, and I’m very happy about how well it performs with the Sparklight 300 Mbps plan. Over the 5GHz plan, download and upload speeds clocked at 247 Mbps and 14 Mbps, respectively, while respective speeds on the 2.4GHz band were 231 Mbps and 10 Mbps.

As already mentioned, this is not the fastest router out there, but with a ping staying around 2-5ms, I find it worth purchasing. The games played out fine, but in a few instances, latency bloated badly, and I got kicked out of the lobby, which was disappointing.

The best thing about this device is its “smart connect” feature which lets you have 1 WiFi network. In simple words, the router intelligently selects the best network for your device (2.4 and 5GHz) and keeps it connected all along.

Wired Speeds

D-Link router has a decent selection of ports with 1 GigE WAN and 4 GigE LAN ports, which lets you access faster speeds with lesser interferences. With a maximum throughput of 304 Mbps and 17 Mbps, I find my games and videos to play out fine. Besides, a USB 3.0 port facilitates faster data transfer to non-networking devices.

WiFi Coverage & Connections Capacity

With a maximum coverage of 1,800 Sq Ft, I decided to test its coverage in my grandpa’s 1,500 Sq Ft house, and the result was okay. Despite having a 4-antenna setup, I had signals covering an area of around 1,300 Sq Ft. Although the interferences in the setup resulted in such a score, still it’s weaker than others on the list.

One good thing about this device is including MU-MIMO support. It especially works to deliver clear and strong signals to the client devices, so connecting 9 devices, including gaming consoles, smart TVs, mobiles, and laptops, wasn’t an issue.

Security Features

Similar to many routers, security is its weak point. Despite those basic features like WPA2 and VPN, there is yet to be anything available. You won’t even get access to any premium security features, which require you to get your hands on a third-party antivirus, so choose wisely.

In conclusion, despite being the cheapest option on my list, it ensures you don’t face many issues when working on important tasks. Its speed and coverage are decent, making it a good router to replace the Sparklight-provided router.
