How Dancing Water Speakers Work?

Every dancing water speaker consists of two parts – the lower part is made of hard plastic and that’s where the drivers are placed, and the second (upper) part is the part with liquid (in some cases it’s water but non-flammable oil is used more often). The upper part is usually made of transparent plastic or glass and you can look at colorful water jets through this transparent housing.

These are all the things you already know, right? The one thing that’s still a mystery is what makes the fluid ‘’dance’’. The answer is pretty simple, actually. Inside that lower part, there is also one pulse-reactive motor with magnets on the upper side. When connected to the speaker, the motor spins to the beat of the music. On the bottom of the upper part of the speaker, there’s a fan with a magnet on its bottom. When the music is played, the rotor spins and because of those two magnets (one attached to the upper end of the motor and the other attached to the bottom of the fan), rotor causes the fan to rotate as well.

As the fan is spinning, the pressure is built inside that upper part of the speaker (the part with the fluid) and it causes the fluid to jump through the nozzles. It might look to you that LED lights are placed inside the nozzles and that water jets are in contact with these lights but that’s not the case. The fluid is physically separated from the LED lights, but the lights are carefully directed towards the nozzles so it looks like they are, in fact, inside the nozzles. These lights cause water jets to look so colorful and fun. Without the lights, you would only see colorless water jets. The short answer would be no. There are a few reasons why you should buy a dancing water speaker that we can think of.

First, kids love these. If you need a cheap pair of speakers for your kid’s room, dancing water speakers might be the best choice. That way, even if they break (or if your kid breaks them), you won’t be stressed much. The most important thing – you will make your kid happy and there’s nothing more important than that.

Second, indulge your inner child. Adult life can be so boring and if you bring a little bit of joy into your life you can make it much more fun. Dancing water speakers might be just the thing you need.

SoundSOUL is another Chinese company situated in Shenzhen (which is probably the headquarters of all the audio companies in China – almost every generic audio brand we came across is headquartered in Shenzhen). Their wired dancing water speakers are one of the most popular and one of the cheapest on the market. You can have a pair of dancing water speakers for less than $20 and if you ask us, this is a great deal. You shouldn’t expect anything spectacular but for the price, this is a decent set of speakers. Also, if you are a fan of wireless speakers, you should know that there’s a Bluetooth version of these speakers and that you can buy it for about $30.

 What’s in the box

The speakers come in a nice-looking box with all the important features written on it. Inside the box, you will find a user manual, one USB to micro USB cable (this is a power cable that you have to connect to your PC or to a power bank – there is no power adapter), one auxiliary cable (3.5mm to 3.5mm) that you can use to connect any audio source with 3.5mm port, and two speakers. The main speaker (the one with 3.5mm jack and micro USB port) has one undetachable cable with micro USB connector at the back – you have to use this cable to connect two speakers together.

Each speaker is 9.7 inches tall, 3.1 inches wide, and 6.1 inches deep. They weigh 1.45 pounds.

 Things we like

When it comes to design, this is not the best-looking pair of speakers on the market but it’s not awful either. They are made of acrylic; the lower part has a glossy finish and it’s available in two colors – blue and white while the upper part is transparent and you can look at water jets and light show through it. They don’t look impressive during the day but when you turn off the lights, the speakers look much more intriguing.

They are also not the most durable speakers but for the price, you can’t really expect anything better than that. Housing is made of plastic and drivers inside the speakers are made of paper.

Each driver has 3W of power (6W combined). We are not going to lie – there is nothing amazing about the sound. The bass practically doesn’t exist, mids and highs are clean and articulate unless you crank up the volume above 90%. That’s pretty much what you can expect from a cheap pair of speakers.

The greatest features are, of course, the light show and dancing water jets. They really look amazing, especially during the night.

 Things we don’t like

There are no volume controls or any other control buttons on the speakers. If you want to increase/decrease the volume, you have to use your phone/PC or any device connected to the speakers.

The sound is tiny, the reproduction of the low-end frequencies is poor, but that’s expected when the speakers are small and cheap.

In order to make the water jets jumping, you need to play music loud. Water jets react better (they ‘’dance’’ more) to bass-heavy music. So, the speakers look great when some hard rock, heavy metal or dubstep music is played but you won’t get the same results with classical or soft pop music.

Naxa Electronics is an American-based electronics manufacturer (seller). They make all kinds of devices – TVs, soundbars, tablets, speakers. We are presenting to you their dancing water tower speaker with Bluetooth connectivity called NHS -2009. It’s a bit more expensive than other small dancing water speakers but it’s still affordable (you can buy it for about $40). NAXA Electronics says this is a tower (floor standing) speaker but it is actually too small for a tower speaker. It’s more like a tabletop or PC speaker. There is only one speaker in the package (not a pair).

 What’s in the box

Along with the speaker, you will get a power adapter. 3.5mm audio cable, remote, and user manual. The speaker is shaped like a cuboid. The base is completely black and covered with some kind of cloth grille. The upper part is made of transparent plastic. There are 7 control buttons on the front side – power button with a LED indicator, 2 TUNE buttons (for searching FM radio stations), play/pause button, volume controls, and source button (you can shift between FM, AUX, and Bluetooth). All the input ports are on the rear panel. There is a DC input, AUX port, 2 RCA ports, and FM antenna.

The speaker weighs 4.6 pounds. It is 4.3 inches wide, 4.3 inches deep, and 21.6 inches tall. As you can see, it’s not that tall to be considered a tower speaker although it might look like one on the pictures.

Inside the speaker, there are 2 full-range 3W drivers.

 Things we like

NHS-2009 looks nicer and more expensive than the average dancing water speaker mostly because of the black and stylish lower part (the one with the drivers). It’s available in black color only.

The speaker also looks more durable than cheaper dancing water speakers. The upper part is pretty much standard and made of transparent plastic but the lower part is really well built.

Unlike the previous speaker on the list, this one has built-in Bluetooth but it’s not wireless and it has to be plugged-in all the time (not battery powered). Still, you can use Bluetooth to pair it with any Bluetooth-enabled device (phone/tablet/PC) and you don’t have to use 3.5mm cable (you can use the cable if you want – there is also 3.5mm AUX port on the speaker). Bluetooth works well, the connection is stable and there was no signal loss during our testing. The Bluetooth range is 33ft.

NHS-2009 has built-in FM tuner which is another great feature. All the frequencies within the range 87.5Mhz to 108MHz are covered. You can use two dedicated TUNE buttons on the speaker or on the remote to search for radio stations.

The speaker also comes with a remote (battery included). The remote is simple and all the control buttons that you can see on the speaker are on the remote, too (plus additional MUTE button).

Sound quality is decent for an affordable 6W speaker. The bass lacks impact, and mids and highs are clear. There is a small amount of distortion at maximum volume.

Colored water jets look really attractive. The chamber with water looks rather cheap but when you turn off the lights and you don’t see the acrylic enclosure those dancing colorful water jets look amazing.  

 Things we don’t like

There are no radio presets and you will have to search for your favorite station every time you turn on the speaker.

The sound is a bit tiny. The bass is not punchy enough.

BeFree Sound is another generic brand, probably from China. The speaker system we are presenting to you is much stronger and larger than the previous two. This one is probably the best choice for parties – it offers pretty good and loud sound with more bass than other 2.0 dancing water speakers and makes a great light show with nice projections on the ceiling. BFS-33X costs more than previously mentioned speakers but the price is higher for a reason. You can have this set for about $80. There are similar 2.1 systems on the market made by SoundSOUL and ATake but they cost a bit more. These systems are basically the same and they are definitely made in the same factory. In fact, we think that most of the dancing water speakers on the market (and on this list) are made by the same manufacturers.

 What’s in the box

Along with the speaker system, you will get a power adapter, one 3.5mm auxiliary cable, user manual, and 1-year warranty card. The speakers come with undetachable micro USB cables that you are supposed to plug into the main unit (the subwoofer).

The subwoofer is the main unit. It has 4 control buttons on the front side (power on/off, play/pause, volume up and volume down) with LED volume level indicator. The inputs are on the rear panel. You will find 2 micro USB ports (for connecting the satellites), DC input, and 3.5mm input port (you can use it to connect non-Bluetooth devices to the speaker or in case you don’t want to use Bluetooth connection).

The subwoofer is 13 inches tall and it features one driver with 5W of output power. The satellites are 10.5 inches tall and inside each satellite speaker, there is one 3W driver.

Inside the transparent acrylic chamber of the subwoofer, there are 8 colored water jets, and inside the satellites, you will see 6 rotating colored water jets. Together, they make a mesmerizing light show.

 Things we like

BFS-33X speaker system looks really nice. The base of the subwoofer is gray and the satellites are black and gray. All three speakers have those acrylic water chambers that look like domes. They all look visually appealing but the thing that really makes them attractive is the light show.

BFS-33X is completely made of plastic but it looks durable. Some people complained about the water jets not being able to move and dance after a few months but we haven’t experienced any issues.

The speaker system features built-in Bluetooth. You can pair it with your phone and PC without a cable and stream your favorite music. The connection was stable even at 30ft distance.

Compared to all those small dancing water speakers, this speaker system really performs much better. Bass is punchier, mids are nice and detailed, and highs are clean. If you are not happy with those small dancing water speakers, you might be happy with this one – it offers both much better sound quality and much more fun (20 colorful water jets and mesmerizing light show).

This system is maybe a bit more expensive than the others, but considering the performance and the light show, we can’t really say it’s overpriced. It offers great value for your money.

 Things we don’t like

If someone is streaming music via Bluetooth, you can’t simply take over and start streaming music from your phone. That person has to unpair his device and then you can pair your phone with the speaker.

Water jets don’t really move that much at low volumes.  In order to see them jumping, you need to crank up the volume.

This is the second SoundSOUL speaker on the list and it is a slightly improved version of the previous one. Unlike the first SoundSOUL speaker, these speakers are shaped differently, they have control buttons, and they are available in more interesting colors.

 What’s in the box

Inside the SoundSOUL box, you will find two speakers, one auxiliary cable, one mini USB (not micro USB) to USB power cable, user manual, and 1-year warranty card.

The speakers have a circular base. The lower part (the one with the speaker) is made of hard plastic with a glossy finish, and the upper part (the one with liquid) is made of transparent acrylic.

Speakers are 2.7 inches wide, 2.7 inches deep, and 10 inches high. Each speaker weighs 1.2 pounds.  

Inside each speaker, there is one full-range front-firing driver with 3W of output power. On the side of the main speaker (the one with all the connections), you have 4 control buttons – 2 volume buttons, light show button (you can use it to turn off the light show), and power button. The main speaker has 2 mini USB inputs on the rear port as well as 3.5mm input port (this is the only way of connecting your devices – the speaker doesn’t feature Bluetooth). The other speaker has undetachable mini USB cable (you have to connect the second speaker to the main unit).

 Things we like

The speaker is oddly shaped, and it looks like it was made for kids. The speaker is available in three colors – pink, black, and blue.

The plastic is not the most durable material but you should get used to the fact that most of the dancing water speakers are made of it. And it’s not only about the plastic, overall build quality is not impressive. So, don’t expect it to last for more than a year.

There is only one way of connecting your phone/PC to the speakers and that’s 3.5mm port. These speakers are not Bluetooth. The speaker is USB powered so it needs to be connected to your PC or to a power adapter (power bank) in order to work.

The sound quality is not impressive but for a cheap pair of speakers that you can buy for about $20, these speakers deliver pretty good sound. The bass lacks impact and it’s really weak, but mids and highs are there and they are clear when the volume is not too high.

 Things we don’t like

Distortion becomes really noticeable at high volumes and we don’t recommend cranking up the volume above 80% or so.

Water jets make a noise that actually overpowers the sound at low volumes. If you increase the volume above 50%, you won’t hear the water.

The manufacturer decided to go with mini USB connectors which is really odd. Most of today’s devices come with micro USB cable and in case you lose one cable, you can always replace it with a cable that came with some other device. If you lose that mini USB cable that comes with the speakers, the odds are that you won’t be able to replace it immediately – we don’t have that many mini USB cables lying around. Micro USB cable and connectors would be much better choice than mini USB.

The next speaker on the list comes from MoreBuyBuy and it’s a little bit more expensive than other dancing water speakers. You can have it for about $50 and it really deserves that kind of a price tag. The speaker looks different than most of the dancing water speakers, it’s more stylish and it’s so much fun to look at while playing.

 What’s in the box

The speaker comes with a USB power cable, AUX cable, user manual, and 1-year warranty. It has a square-shaped front panel with another smaller square inside of it. and it really looks stylish. The speaker is mostly made of ABS and the part with water jets is made of acrylic.

The speaker is 8.7 inches wide, 8.7 inches tall, and 3.1 inches deep. It weighs 2.82 pounds.

Inside the speaker, there are two full-range 3W drivers on the opposite sides of the speaker for better stereo separation. Speaker’s frequency response spans from 180Hz to 18kHz.

The control buttons are on the top panel. There are 6 control buttons – light show button (you can use it to turn on/off the lights), fountain button (turn on/off water jets), power button, 2 volume buttons, and play/pause button.

 Things we like

The speaker looks really nice, especially during the night. It’s available in only one color (black), but when the light show is on, you will have all the colors in one speaker. It really improves the atmosphere a lot.

The speaker is compact and sturdy. It looks and feels really durable, more durable than previously mentioned speakers. Build quality is more than satisfying.

The speaker features Bluetooth and you can pair it easily with any Bluetooth-enabled device. The connection is stable and the range is 33ft. If you don’t want to use Bluetooth, you can always connect your phone or any other device via AUX port. There is also micro SD card slot so you can insert micro SD card and play the music from it.

The sound quality is decent for the size but you can definitely find a much better speaker (or even regular 2.1 set without all the lights and water jets) for that kind of money. Still, those other speakers can’t make a light show and don’t have dancing water jets. So, if you want something different and amusing, this speaker might be a better option. When it comes to sound, you should know that bass is practically nonexistent, mids are pretty clean but not perfect, and highs are kind of dull. We were not impressed.

As always, the greatest features of these speakers are all those lights and dancing water jets.

 Things we don’t like

The sound is really tiny and the manufacturer should make some improvements in that department and leave everything else as it is. Sound quality is the only thing that needs an improvement.

This is the third and last SoundSOUL speaker on the list and it’s their best dancing water speaker. This is actually a 2.1 set that looks a lot like previously mentioned BeFree Sound BFS-33X but it is stronger than BFS-33X, it delivers better sound quality, and the controls are different. This SoundSOUL 2.1 system is one of the most expensive speakers on the list.

 What’s in the box

Inside the box, you will find one subwoofer, two satellites, one auxiliary audio cable, power adapter, USB cable, user manual, and 1-year warranty card. The satellites have undetachable cables with mini USB connectors (you have to connect the satellites to the subwoofer).

The subwoofer weighs 4.42 pounds. It is 12.6 inches tall, and diameter of the base is 8.7 inches.

Each satellite speaker weighs 0.83 pounds. They are 10.6 inches tall, and diameter of the base is 3.5 inches.

Speakers have a base (the part with the drivers) made of ABS with a glossy finish. The tube with the liquid is made of acrylic.

The subwoofer is the main unit. The control buttons are on the front panel – there are circular touch-sensitive volume controls and four clickable buttons (power button, BASS + and BASS -, and light show button that you can use to turn on/off the light show). There is no way to turn off the liquid jets, so even if you turn off the lights the liquid will jump to the beat of your music.

On the rear panel of the subwoofer, you will see a DC input, 2 mini USB inputs (for connecting 2 satellites), and AUX input.

The speaker system has RMS power output rated at 25W, and frequency response of the system spans from 40Hz to 18kHz. These two facts and the fact that SoundSOUL decided to come out with some technical info (which is not always the case), tell you that this system is much better than all those small dancing water speakers (and it’s even better than BFS-33X).

 Things we like

The speaker system looks really nice and stylish and it becomes even more attractive during the night. It’s not too large so it is a good choice for smaller rooms.

The speakers are well-built and seem durable. Still, don’t expect them to last for years. Water (or liquid) jets are usually the first thing that gets broken.

Speaker system features Bluetooth and AUX connection. You can quickly pair your Bluetooth-enabled devices with the system and stream your favorite music. The signal range is about 30ft and we haven’t experienced signal loss during our testing. In case you have some non-Bluetooth device, you can always use AUX port and 3.5mm cable.

The sound quality is more than satisfying. Unlike many other dancing water speakers, this system actually has some bass. It’s not the best and it might sound a bit muddy at high volumes, but it is still there and it’s punchy. Mids are articulate and clean. Highs are a bit dull. All in all, this system is much better than all the speakers we’ve mentioned previously and probably the best one on the list. The only problem is that it is more expensive than others. The system is not too loud but it’s suitable for small parties (up to 15 people).

 Things we don’t like

Touch-sensitive volume controls can be really tricky. They are not responsive enough and you really have to press the controls and then slide clockwise to increase the volume.

These speakers are pretty much the same as the first ones on the list. They’re maybe a bit smaller and lighter but we have no doubts that they are all made in the same factory. In fact, most of the dancing water speakers on this list (and on the market) are made in the same factory. You can get a pair of e-Joy speakers for about $15, so it’s even cheaper than that 2.0 speaker set made by SoundSOUL.

 What’s in the box

Inside a nice-looking box, you will find 2 speakers, a set of cables (AUX cable and mini USB to USB cable), user manual, and a warranty card. You have all the important features as well as all the instructions listed on the back of the box.

The speakers are 8.7 inches tall, 6.2 inches deep, and 2.3 inches wide. They weigh 1.5 pounds.

The base of the speaker is made of hard plastic and has a shiny finish and the tube with water is made of transparent acrylic.

The speaker doesn’t feature any controls and you will have to use your phone, PC, or any other device connected to the speaker to control the volume and playback. On the rear panel of the main speaker, there is one mini USB port (for connecting the power cable – the speaker is USB powered), one AUX port, and undetachable cable with mini USB connector that you should use to connect two speakers together. The other speaker has one mini USB port on the back side.

 Things we like

The speakers look nice and stylish, and maybe a little bit cheap. Like all the dancing water speakers, they look much better when you turn off the lights in your room.

The build quality is not the greatest. They will hardly last for more than a year. Considering the price, you can’t really expect more than that.

Sylvania SP349 reminds us of previously mentioned NAXA Electronics NHS-2009 and they definitely look like they are made in the same factory (the same shape, the same buttons on the speaker, inputs are arranged in the same way, they both feature FM radio and Bluetooth, even the remotes are similar). Sylvania’s speaker is much higher and it can be considered a floor standing speaker (unlike NHS-2009), it has stronger drivers, and it features additional LEDs on the front panel which make it more attractive. Because of these three details, SP349 costs $20-$30 more than NAXA NHS-2009 and it can be yours for about $70.

The speaker comes with power adapter, remote control, one auxiliary cable, the wooden base for the speaker with all the screws (you have to install it on your own), user manual, and 1-year limited warranty.

The speaker looks really attractive, especially during the night when the lights are off. Everything is made of plastic and it looks kind of cheap. The build quality is not perfect but if you handle it with care, it should definitely last for more than a year. The build quality matches the price tag. You can certainly find much sturdier, more durable, and better speakers on the market for that kind of money but they don’t have all those shiny lights and dancing water jets – it’s all up to you and your preferences.

There are multiple ways of connecting different types of devices to the speaker. You can use Bluetooth connection for Bluetooth-enabled devices (30ft range) and AUX or RCA for non-Bluetooth devices. There is also the FM feature, so you can use the speaker to listen to your favorite radio stations (you can use TUNE buttons to change the station).

Sound quality is not perfect. SP349 offers better sound quality than NAXA NHS-2009 and it’s also louder but we were not impressed. Bass is weak, almost nonexistent, and that’s the biggest issue. Mids are the best part and they sound clean and dynamic. Highs are a bit harsh, especially at high volumes.  

As always, the best features are those dancing water jets and light show.

 Things we don’t like

Just like NAXA NHS-2009, SP349 can’t remember your favorite radio stations (no radio presets) and you will have to search for your favorite station every time you turn the speaker on.

The sound is far from perfect – the bass lacks impact and it’s really weak.

The next speaker on the list is really small. The greatest thing about it is that it is battery powered and portable so you can use it outdoors. Another great thing is that you can refill it with water in case the water disappears or leaks out. You can find this exact speaker under different names (SUNSURE is the most common) and they are all made by the same manufacturer (probably some Chinese company). This is another affordable dancing water speaker on the list (you can have it for about $30).

 What’s in the box

Inside the box, you will find one Svance speaker, one charging cable, one auxiliary cable, a bulb syringe (you can use it to refill the tube with water), two silicone plugs (you should use that plug to seal the tube after refilling), user manual, and 1-year warranty card.

The speaker is completely made of plastic. The lower part is made of hard plastic and the water fountain tube is made of acrylic.

Svance speaker weighs 14.1 ounces, diameter of the base is 4.5 inches, and speaker’s height is 9 inches.

The controls are on the front side, near the bottom of the speaker. There are 4 buttons – MODE button (for shifting between Bluetooth/AUX/micro SD), Previous song/Volume Down button (short press to play the previous song, long press to decrease the volume), Next song/Volume Up button, and play/pause button. The inputs are on the rear end. You have one micro SD slot, one AUX input, DC power input (charging port), and ON/OFF switch (there are three positions – OFF, LIGHTS ON, LIGHTS OFF).

Inside the speaker, there are two small down-firing full-range drivers. There is no info on their power ratings but there is no way they can output more than 3W of power. Considering their position and orientation they can’t produce 360-sound. The manufacturer claims that they can.

 Things we like

This is one of the most beautiful dancing water speakers on this list. It’s shaped like a bullet and it looks really interesting and stylish, even during the day. And it looks even better in the dark.

The build quality is not impressive but it looks more durable and compact than some other models on the list.

The speaker features Bluetooth so you don’t have to use cables. Bluetooth connection is stable, the signal is strong, and the range is 30ft. If you have some non-Bluetooth device, you can use AUX port, or you can even take micro SD card out of your phone and insert it into the speaker.

This is the first battery-powered speaker on the list. The battery is not the greatest but you can get up to 3 hours of playback at full volume with all the LED lights on. If you ran out of battery, you can always use some portable power bank to charge it.

The sound quality is not the best feature of this little speaker. It’s pretty quiet, there is practically no bass at all, and highs are dull. Mids are clean and articulate. Considering the size, price, and all the other features of the speaker, the sound quality is satisfying.

In order to make the water dance, you really need to crank up the volume. It will not move at low volumes.

Sharper Image is an American electronics manufacturer. SBT50013 is the third 2.1 speaker system on this list. It’s definitely not as good as the previous two models (BeFree and SoundSOUL) and it’s not equally fun since the subwoofer doesn’t have the tube with dancing water.

 What’s in the box

Inside the box, you will find 2 speakers, one subwoofer, two USB to mini USB cables (for connecting the speakers to the subwoofer), one power adapter, user manual, and 1-year warranty card.

The subwoofer is really small and lightweight and it doesn’t look like it can reproduce really low frequencies. It’s made of plastic with a nice glossy finish. The sub has one small front-firing driver and a bass reflex port on the back side. You will find 2 knobs on the rear panel (volume and bass knobs), two USB ports (for connecting the speakers), power input, and power switch. All in all, the subwoofer is very simple and it’s not fun at all.

The satellites are much more fun. They have those recognizable transparent tubes with LEDs and dancing water. They are also made of plastic and don’t have any control buttons. There is only mini USB port on the rear panel of each satellite speaker.

 Things we like

This speaker system is not bad-looking but it’s not the most beautiful on the list either. The subwoofer is simple and stylish and the satellites are really attractive. They are shaped like cones and the upper part is reserved for the tube with dancing water jets. They really look mesmerizing in the dark.

The speakers are not the best example of great build quality. Everything is made of plastic, so don’t expect it to last forever. You get 1-year limited warranty in case they break.

You can pair this speaker system with any of your Bluetooth-enabled devices. Bluetooth connection works like a charm, we haven’t experienced any connection-related issues during our testing. Signal range is approximately 30ft. In case you want to connect some non-Bluetooth device to the speaker system, you can use AUX cable. You can also use them as your PC speakers.

When it comes to sound quality, this system is not as good as the previous two 2.1 systems but it is definitely better than all those 2.0 speakers. That small subwoofer is not capable of reproducing frequencies below 80Hz but it still makes a difference. Bass maybe lacks texture but it’s there. The satellites do a good job with mids and not so good job with highs (they are dull and lack some clarity).

The best features are, of course, the lights and all the dancing water jets.

 Things we don’t like

In order to see those cool and colorful water jets jumping, you need to increase the volume above 50%. There is no dancing water at low volumes.

Even with the additional bass unit, low frequencies don’t really sound punchy enough.

It’s shaped like a table lamp and it has LEDs and dancing water but it also projects beautiful pictures on the ceiling thanks to the slides that come with the speaker that you are supposed to put on top of the speaker under the transparent cap. This a great option for your kid’s room – it’s fun to look at and it’s not too expensive. You can find the exact same speaker under the name FanHua dancing water speaker.

 What’s in the box

YOOYOO speaker comes in a simple box, and along with it, you will get a charging cable, remote controller, 3 projection slides, user manual, and warranty card.

The speaker is 9.9 inches tall, the diameter of the base is 5.1 inches, and diameter of the cap on top of the speakers is 6.2 inches. The speaker weighs 0.8 pounds.

The speaker consists of 3 parts. The bottom part is made of hard plastic and the battery is located inside that part. You will also see a charging USB port, ON/OFF switch, and IR sensors on the bottom part. The middle part is the chamber for water and it’s made of transparent plastic. The part on the top is made of hard plastic, just like the bottom part.

Inside that upper part, there is one 5W full range driver. Driver’s frequency response spans from 150Hz to 20kHz.

 Things we like

The speaker looks nice and stylish. It’s available in white color only, which is not the best choice. It would look much better in black.

The speaker is compact and sturdy. It is made of plastic but it still looks like it can take some beating.

The speaker features Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR and it can be paired with any Bluetooth-enabled device. The range is about 30ft. Unfortunately, there is no other way to connect the speaker to your devices, so if your phone, PC, or any other device doesn’t have Bluetooth, you can’t connect it to the speaker.

YOOYOO speaker is completely wireless and it is battery-powered. Battery capacity is 2200mAh, recharge takes 4 hours, and you can listen to music for up to 5 hours (20 hours in standby mode).

Unlike all the other speakers on the list, this speaker has a built-in mic. The mic is not perfect but it is nice and useful little addition.

YOOYOO comes with a remote. You can use it to adjust the volume, play the previous/next song, play/pause the song, turn on/off the light show and water jets.

Just like all the other dancing water speakers, YOOYOO doesn’t deliver great audio performance. The bass doesn’t exist, mids are clean and articulate, and highs are a bit dull. Considering the price, the audio performance is satisfying.

 Things we don’t like

The speaker doesn’t have AUX input port or any other input – the only way to connect the speaker to your devices is Bluetooth.

There are no control buttons on the speaker (only ON/OFF switch). If you want to play/pause, adjust the volume, or play the previous/next song, you have to use your phone or the remote. If you want to turn the light show on or off, you have to use the remote.

You will probably notice that these speakers look exactly the same as satellite speakers that come with Sharper Image 2.1 speaker system we’ve mentioned previously. They are probably made in the same factory. Unlike those satellites, these speakers feature Bluetooth connectivity. They also come with the battery. Battery capacity is not impressive but you can’t really expect more for that kind of money (less than $25).

 What’s in the box

The speakers come with a set of cables (mini USB to mini USB for connecting the speakers together, USB to micro USB charging cable, and an auxiliary cable). You will also get a user manual and a warranty card.

Just like all the other dancing water speakers, Polaroid speakers have two parts – the bottom part is the one with the driver and battery inside (made of hard plastic with glossy finish) and the upper part is the one with all the water (it’s made of transparent acrylic).

Each speaker weighs 0.9 pounds. The speakers are 9 inches tall, and the diameter of the base is 5 inches.

The build quality matches the price. They look sturdy and compact but you should have in mind that they are made of plastic and they are cheap. When it comes to construction quality and sound quality, you usually get what you paid for.

Bluetooth connectivity is always a plus. You can pair the speaker with any Bluetooth-enabled device. The pairing process is quick, the connection is strong and stable, and the range is 30ft. In case you don’t want to use Bluetooth or you want to connect some non-Bluetooth device, there is the AUX port.

You can find this pair of speakers under a bunch of names – Crayola, Polaroid, NAXA, Sharper Image, etc.

Even though dancing water speakers are relatively affordable, you shouldn’t make a hasty decision. There are at least a few things you should consider before making the purchase.

Price

Most of the speakers on our list and on the market are, in fact, really affordable and most of them cost no more than $50. Surprisingly, there are some 2.1 systems that cost up to $200. And that’s pretty much it. Dancing water speakers are really not that expensive. If you want the best possible sound with a great light show and dancing water jets and you have enough space, you should probably go for one of those 2.1 systems. If you need a pair of speakers for your PC, you should buy one of those smaller ones and you can find a pair of small speakers for $50 or less.

Style and Colors

Dancing water speakers are available in different shapes and colors. Most of these speakers have that ordinary cuboid shape, but we like more those unusual ones. Also, not all of them have the exact same LED lights and not all of them look great in the dark. These two factors are highly subjective so you might want to see them before making the purchase.

Size

Most of the dancing water speakers are really small but there are a few bigger and more powerful models. It all depends on your room size and purpose. If you have a large room and you need something strong, you should probably buy some 2.1 system or some large floor standing speaker. If you want a pair of PC speakers or a speaker for your kid’s room, you can buy one of those smaller (and cheaper) ones.

Sound Quality

Sound quality is another important criterion. As you already know, you can’t expect some small dancing water speaker to have flat frequency response across a wide range of frequencies. That’s simply unrealistic. Even those larger 2.1 systems don’t sound as good as some regular 2.1 speaker systems (the great chunk of each speaker is reserved for water jets).
