Roku devices are available in many places, and many users find themselves upgrading their models over time because they love the devices so much. But, when that time comes, how do you log out or prep the device for the next steps?
To sign out of your Roku account on your TV, navigate to Settings > System > Sign Out, and confirm. If you want to unlink the device to sell it, perform a factory reset from Advanced System Settings. You can also unlink devices online from your Roku account. Use Guest Mode to sign out automatically.
Whether you’re looking to switch to a different Roku account or just want to sign out of your current one, we’ve got you covered. In this guide, we’ll be sharing step-by-step instructions on how to sign out of your Roku account on your TV, as well as some other info you may want and some tips around Roku privacy (ever heard of “guest mode”?) Let’s get started!
How to Log Out Of Roku Account on TV
If you have multiple Roku devices, like the Roku Express (on Amazon) maybe or another Roku stick or box, you could want to sign out of your Roku account from TV to protect your privacy or to allow someone else to sign in with your account. Here are the steps to sign out of your Roku account on TV. Note that if you want to unlink your identity from your Roku, that requires a factory reset.
Step 1: Navigate to Settings
Using your Roku remote, navigate to the Settings menu. You can find the Settings option by pressing the Home button on your remote and selecting the gear icon on the left side of the screen.
And just to be clear, we’re talking about the settings menu on the Roku. If you’re using your normal TV remote, you’ll want to swap to the Roku remote and navigate to the Roku device’s settings.
Step 2: Select System
From the Settings menu, scroll down and select the System option. This will take you to the System menu, so you can access various settings related to your Roku device.
Step 3: Choose Sign Out
Scroll down to the bottom of the System menu and select the Sign-Out option. This will log you out of your Roku account on your TV.
Step 4: Confirm Sign Out
After selecting Sign Out, you should be prompted to confirm your decision. Choose Yes to sign out of your Roku account on your TV. Now you can log into another account if you need to.
If it seems pretty simple, that’s because it is! Remember that this only signs you out of the specific Roku device you are using and does not close your account or reset your device. Alternatively, if you need to close your account or reset your device, keep reading.
We recommend signing out of your Roku account whenever you are done using your TV to protect your privacy and help prevent unauthorized access to your account.
Other Roku Account Actions You Can Do On Your TV

How To Sign Out All Accounts On Roku

How to Remove Your Roku Device from Your Account
If you’re looking to sell your Roku device (keeping in mind its lifespan) or simply want to wipe the connection between your account and the device, you’re probably wondering how to remove Roku account from TV completely. Here’s how to do it from the Roku device itself (as opposed to online, which we’ll cover in the next section):
Step 1: Navigate to Settings
From the Roku home screen, navigate to the Settings menu. This can usually be found by pressing the Home button on your remote and selecting the gear icon.
Step 2: Select System
Once you’re in the Settings menu, select the System option. This will take you to a menu where you can access various system settings.
Step 3: Choose Advanced System Settings
From the System menu, select the Advanced System Settings option. This will take you to a menu with more advanced settings.
Step 4: Select Factory Reset
In the Advanced System Settings menu, select the Factory Reset option. This will erase all settings and data on the device and return it to its original factory settings.
Step 5: Confirm Factory Reset (& Check It)
After selecting Factory Reset, you’ll be asked to confirm your choice. Once you confirm, the device will begin the reset process, which may take a few minutes to complete.
And that’s it! Your Roku device is now removed from your account and ready to be sold or used by someone else. If you have multiple devices on your account, you’ll have to repeat these steps for each device you’re removing.
As part of this last step – be sure to check that the factory reset is complete by confirming the Roku prompts you to sign in with an account. Don’t just run the reset and unplug the box.
How to Unlink Your Roku Device from Your Account Online
If you want to remove a Roku device from your account remotely, you can do so by disconnecting it from your Roku accounts online. Here are the steps to follow:
Step 1: Log In to Your Roku Account
Visit my.roku.com on your computer or smartphone and log in to your Roku account. If you are not already logged in, you will be prompted to do so.
Step 2: Select Linked Devices
Scroll down to the “My linked devices” section and select the Roku device you want to unlink.
Step 3: Choose the Roku Device You Want to Unlink
Click on the device you want to remove from your account.
Step 4: Select Unlink
Finally, click on the “Unlink” button and confirm that you want to remove the device from your account. The Roku device will no longer be linked to your account and can be used with a different account or sold/given away without any issues.
Remember, unlinking a device from your account does not deactivate your Roku account or cancel any subscription fees you may have. If you, however, want to cancel any subscriptions, head to the next section.
How To Close Your Roku Account
Closing your Roku account is a straightforward process that involves just a few steps. Importantly – this is what stops you from being charged anymore. Here are the steps to follow:
- First, sign in to your Roku account on your computer or mobile device.
- Next, select “Manage your subscriptions” and cancel any subscriptions you have.
- Once you have canceled your subscriptions, select “Done” to return to the “My Account” page.
- From there, select “Deactivate account” and follow the prompts to complete the process.
It’s essential to note that once you close your Roku account, it cannot be reactivated. Additionally, any purchases or rentals you have made through your account won’t be accessible after the account is closed.
If you are wiping your Roku device with a factory reset or logging out of it, that isn’t going to stop you from being billed unless you also close the account. So, make sure you follow these steps to avoid being billed for any subscriptions you no longer want.
And lastly – just remember that you may have other subscriptions to streaming services outside Roku that will still be billed. If you subscribed to Max through Roku, you may still have a Max account you can log into anywhere, not just through Roku.
Using Guest Mode For Automatic Sign-Out
If you need to sign out of your Roku account on your TV regularly or automatically, using Guest Mode is a great option. When you enable Guest Mode, your Roku device will automatically sign out of your account after a certain period of inactivity. This is useful when someone else needs to sign into your Roku temporarily or when you want to sign into a Roku in a hotel or somewhere else.
In order to enable Guest Mode, navigate to Settings > Guest Mode on your Roku device. From there, you can turn on Guest Mode and set the duration of inactivity before automatic sign-out.
You can also customize the welcome message that guests will see when they enter Guest Mode. If you want to disable Guest Mode, simply go back to the Guest Mode settings and turn it off. Here are a few more instructions on using Guest Mode on Roku’s site.
Can You Sign Into Roku From Multiple Devices?
Your Roku account allows you to sign in on multiple devices simultaneously, including different TVs, streaming devices, and Roku mobile apps. This means you can access your Roku channels, preferences, and settings across all linked devices without any restrictions.
Saying Goodbye To Your Roku
In conclusion, signing out of your Roku account on your TV is a simple process that can be done in a few steps. It is important to sign out of your account if you are sharing your Roku device or Roku TV with others or if you are selling your Roku device. To sign out, you can either log out of your account from the Roku website or factory reset the device.
