1. eBay

It goes without saying that eBay is one of the best places to sell comic books online because of how large this online marketplace is.

This online auction site can help you sell almost anything and comic books are a big part of their business. You can sell vintage comic books, newer editions, or even your whole collection on eBay.

eBay sell comic books

eBay is also a great starting point for selling comic books and other collectibles like Funko Pops, rare coins, and things like Pokemon cards since this is where niche collectors often begin their search.

Just make sure you do your research and know what prices similar comic books are selling for. You also want to take great photos and include as many details as possible about your listings.

Posting your comics for sale on eBay is free. But you pay a 13.25% final sales fee plus $0.30 per sale, so keep this fee in mind when listing.

2. Heritage Auctions

Heritage Auctions is another popular place to sell comic books online as well as collectibles like sports cards, artwork, sneakers, coins, stamps, and similar items.

You consign your comic books with this platform, which means you send your comic books to Heritage Auctions so the company can sell your collection in one of its regular auctions.

Heritage Auction sell old comic books

This takes all of the work off your plate. And the website has excellent information on how to value your comic books additional details that can help you make the sale.

You also pay 10% or less in fees depending on the value of your comic book or collection. Overall, Heritage Auctions is an excellent place to sell vintage comic books and rare collector's items that have a higher price tag.

3. MyComicShop (Lone Star Comics)

Popular retailer Lone Star Comics sells comic books online as My Comic Shop A family owned company, it purchases millions of dollars annually, making them an excellent place to sell comic books for cash.

While MyComicShop is particularly seeking out old comic books, it still purchases a wide variety of items and has multiple ways you can work with them to make cash quickly from your comic book collection.

MyComicShop sell

You can also consign with MyComicShop, but again, the company most wants comic books from the 1970s or earlier since these are worth more.

MyComicShop also has an online buy-list and numerous selling and consignment options, so explore its website to see what's the best fit.

4. SubZero Comics

Another place to sell comic books online is SubZero Comics.

This popular online comic book retailer buys and sells comics of all ages, including newer comic books and collections. SubZero Comics provides an estimate on your books and let you know if they are interested in purchasing your collection.

Not only does SubZero comics buy comic books, but they have some great tips on how to sell comic books for cash as well.

Comic books from the 1930s to 1960s are in highest demand, but SubZero Comics also buys books from the 1970s and onwards. Having graded comic books that are in excellent or mint condition also helps.

5. Facebook Marketplace

If you want a fast cash sale, the Facebook Marketplace is another excellent place to sell comic books for cash.

I've sold plenty of things on Facebook Marketplace, including old furniture, electronics, and shoes. But comic books and other collectibles are also popular things to sell.

Facebook Marketplace sell comics

I like Facebook Marketplace selling since listing is free. You don't pay selling fees either, and sales are done locally in cash, so you don't have to worry about shipping.

You can also search for groups for buying and selling comic books if you want to sell directly to other collectors on the platform. And Facebook has plenty of these groups, so this is a good option for selling bulk comic books or large collections quickly.

6. HipComic

With over 1 million comic listings, this major online comic retailer is an excellent addition to this list of places to sell comic books.

HipComic has a large network of over 50,000+ comic book collectors and can help sellers reach a large market of devoted fans. And the unique selling point is that you get to create your own online comic book shop to sell from.

HipComic selling fees

Listing comic books is also free, and you pay a $0.03 auction listing fee and 9.95% transaction fee. You also pay a $3.95 monthly store fee with HipComic's starter plan, but you can upgrade your plan to get lower transaction fees and more listings.

If you're selling thousands of comic books and want to do this as a side hustle, having your own storefront could be the best option.

Plus HipComic has useful tools like its own recognition software to help you create your sales listings from photo images.

7. OfferUp

Like Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp is another excellent way to sell comic books for cash if you prefer online selling.

This free app lets you list almost anything for sale, including collectibles like comic books, Yugioh cards, antiques, and more! You then meet buyers in person for simple cash sales.

I like OfferUp since the app has pre-approved meeting places that are in busier, safe public areas. And if you live in a major city, you might find plenty of fellow collectors in your area.

You can also sell comic books online with OfferUp. However, the platform charges a steep 12.9% online sales fee.

8. ComicConnect

ComicConnect is another reputable option for selling comic books, especially if you have vintage comic books or complete collections.

The company lets you list your comics for sale and set your own prices. And it even offers free appraisals and low-cost gradings for comics.

ComicConnect sell comics

Plus, you can sometimes get a cash advance for your comic books if you have a rare collection and are willing to accept a slightly lower upfront price.

For regular sales, ComicConnect charges a 10% sales fee, which is lower than most auction houses charge for collectibles.

9. WhatNot

WhatNot is a more unique option for selling comic books since it's an online “social marketplace” where store owners can interact with buyers and sell products through live shows.

The platform essentially lets you be your own auctioneer for sales events you host. And it's a popular platform to sell comic books, designer clothing, baseball cards, sneakers, luxury watches, and more.

WhatNot seller

When you make a sale, you also get pre-paid shipping labels from WhatNot, and payments are made via PayPal or direct deposit.

As for fees, WhatNot charges an 8% sales commission plus a 2.9% + $0.30 payment processing fee, which is competitive with other online marketplaces.

While this unique method does require a little more salesmanship and being comfortable going live, it is a more personal way to reach potential buyers.

10. Craigslist

Craigslist is a popular Facebook Marketplace alternative that's also a great place to sell comic books and other niche items.

This classifieds site is free to use and create listings on. All you have to do is describe the comic books you're selling, add some photos, and set your price. From there, buyers can contact you to ask questions or arrange a local meetup or online sale.

Our post on Facebook Marketplace vs Craigslist compares both of these platforms in more detail if you're curious.

11. ComicLink

This full-service auction house has been in the comic business since 1996. It offers auctions, exchanges and also brokerage services for vintage comic books, comic artwork and other rare collectibles.

ComicLink

ComicLink offers a few different ways to sell comics as well, including:

  • Auctions: Add your listings to their auction schedule.
  • Comic Book Exchange: Negotiate with buyers.
  • Outright Purchase: Sell your comic collection to ComicLink directly.

Fees vary depending on your selling method, but this is one of the best ways to sell comic books if you want options.

12. Pawn Shops

If you're still wondering where to sell comic books, you can always try pawning them for cash if you need money by tomorrow.

Pawn shops buy all sorts of collectibles, including vintage comic books, precious metals, basketball cards, antiques, and more. And when you sell or pawn your items, you get cash upfront which can help you out if you're in a pinch.

Just note that pawn shops often lowball since they have to resell your items for a profit. So, if you don't need quick cash, pawn shops aren't a good way to sell comic books.

13. QualityComix

Another one of the best places to sell comic books is QualityComix.

This company specializes in older and rare issues and collections of comic books. So, it's a great option if you have comic books from the 1930s to 1960s.

QualityComix

Selling is also an an easy, three-step process:

  1. Submit your comic book(s) for a free evaluation online
  2. Get an offer from QualityComix
  3. Ship your comics to QualityComix if you like the offer and get paid

QualityComix pays you via check within 24 hours after receiving your comics, so the whole process is quite smooth.

14. Local Comic & Games Shops

Like pawn shops, you can always try selling comic books directly to local hobby and games shops.

These shops often buy things like comic books, MTG cards, Funko Pops, and similar merchandise to then resell. But like pawn shops, it's unlikely that you'll get full-price for your comics, and not every shop offers this.

15. Comic Book Conventions

If you're willing to travel, one of the best places to sell comic books could be at an upcoming comic book convention.

Many conventions let people pay to have their own booths, so you could sell large collections here if you're willing to spend money. But even networking with people at these conventions can help you find buyers.

Events like Comic Con happen in many major cities. You can also search for more local comic book conventions that seem appealing.

16. Garage Sale

One final option for selling comic books for cash is to host a garage sale where you sell locally.

This is actually a great option for selling bulk comics that aren't worth that much. In fact, you can probably sell books for a few dollars each when they might only fetch $0.10 to $0.25 if you sell online.

Just make sure to advertise your garage sale in advance. I've found that local flyers work well, and try to host your garage sale on a weekend with good weather.

What Influences Comic Book Prices?

Now that you know where to sell comics, I want to cover a few factors that influence prices so you know how to list your collection:

  • Age: The age of your comic books can determine their value. Comics are classified by ages, including Modern, Copper, Bronze, Silver and Golden Age comic books. The older your comic book, chances are, the more valuable it is, with Golden Age comics from the 1930s to 1950s being the most prized books.
  • Grade: Like many collectibles, the condition matters in comic book collecting. A comic book that is rated a 9.0 is more valuable than one that is rated a 2. Many of the places to sell comic books on this list can assist you with grading your comics.
  • Topic: Certain comic book topics are more desirable than others. For example, superhero comics like Spider Man and Batman are typically more valuable than those portraying cartoon characters.
  • Rarity: Some comics were issued in large quantities, while other editions only had a handful of issues available. Rare comics are ones where fewer copies were produced as well as the condition of those copies that have survived.
  • Demand: The demand for particular comics can help drive prices higher or lower. So what puts certain comics in demand? Part of it is the popularity of the characters featured in the comic book, as well as anticipation for movies or TV shows based on particular issues.
  • Condition: Comic books that are in good condition are going to always be worth more than those that are in poorer shape. The condition of a comic can depend on a variety of factors including if there are any folds, tears, discoloration or any other defects in the comic which reduces its value.
  • Signed Copies: Do you have a comic that has been signed by the writer or artist? This could help your comic be more valuable to collectors and fetch a higher price.
  • Variant Covers: Does your comic have a different cover on it than the standard cover for that issue? These variant covers are more rare and often worth more than standard issues.
  • Important Issues: Certain issues of different comics are more important than others and can also score a higher price. These are usually comics that feature the introduction of a new character or a major event in the series storyline. These key comic issues are often worth higher prices because of the high demand by collectors.

  1. Stay Organized: Organizing your comic books by year, grading, topic, and staying organized is key to successful selling.
  2. Do Your research: Take time to research competing sellers to see what similar comic books are selling for.
  3. Invest In Grading: If you have rare and vintage comic books for sale, investing some time and money into grading them can help you fetch a higher sale price.
  4. Know Your Bottom Price: Be willing to negotiate with buyers, but know your absolute bottom price and when to walk away.
  5. Try Several Options: Listing comics for sale on several marketplaces takes more time, but this tactic helps you find buyers faster.
